Glass Adhesives ???

I am currently helping a friend with the driver-side door glass on a 2001 Mustang. One of the guides that attaches to the bottom of the glass had come loose. The other 2 guides seem to have been attached, or "glued on" by some clear silicone (I dont know if this is "factory" as he has told me this window has been worked on before). These 2 guides seem to be holding but they do not appear to have as much stress on them.
My quesiton is; does anyone know what Ford uses at the factory, and/or is there anything that has been tried and proven to be better than the silicone?
I appreciate the assistance !!!

A good silicone adhesive should work well. If higher strength is needed a standard 2-part epoxy would work although you loose flexibility with the epoxy.
Manufacturing industries like Ford use adhesives that are tailored to the specific assembly that is being built. Many of these adhesives require special conditions to cure (exposure to UV light) so they are not readily available to consumers.
A place that installs windshields might have some of this class of adhesive if you feel that it is needed. The windshield repair adhesives are often developed to cure when exposed to sunlight.

I appreciate your reply. Auto manufacturers using special assembly-line adhesives requiring special facilities was a good point that I never thought about. I checked with a Ford repair CD and they cited an adhesive named Essex. This product seemed to require a special metal primer and seemed to work in several stages to use it properly, possibly requiring a temperature controlled environment during curing that I did not think I could easily reproduce.
I could not find where this Essex was readily available across your average neighborhood parts counter.
I did speak to a salesman at a local parts store who stated he had the same problem. He pulled a tube of silicone adhesive off the rack that he said he used with good results. He advised to allow a cure time of a minimum of 24 hours here in our hot, humid GIn thinking of this again, I realized that only one of the 3 brackets came loose after being installed with the silicone. I figured this was possibly due to a non-uniform cure time being allowed for all 3 brackets. I will install the new regulator and set the bracket today using the silicone adhesive. Once I get it all back together I will return here and advise how it turned out.
Note: I went to Ford to get the new regulator. Real surprised here, as the salesman said only the regulator assembly (including motor) was available and then charged me a core charge and begged me to bring the core in. I asked why this was such a heavy point and he said that Ford did not want the regulator (i.e. the scissor assembly, and/or the motor and scissor assembly) to be offered by aftermarket companies, and they (Ford) wanted to try to control the sales of this part. Sounded like a real questionable strategy to me ... (???)
Anyway ... Thanks again for your assistance !!!

to fix it i would just use 3M brand windshield adhesive. i would think it would work fine as i have used to to install windshields and back glass before.
my dad also owns a parts store and we sell alot of it but it's like for a tube of it. might be whats on your buddys window right now that didnt work but i dont know.

wyoguy is new and has a neutral reputation at this point.

Use 3M brand fast cure urethane windshield adhesive (Part # 8690 normal caulk gun needed or #8689 sausage tude) You will not need a primer if the two parts have old urethane on them. If not you will need to prime the bare metal with primer #8682.
Better yet, take it to your local auto glass shop and have them do it.
