DefaultAnyone built a Robo Cat? (Robocat 270-280 quad)
Hi,
Has anyone built a Robocat quad? I'm looking for a build for my youngest daughter who is all about quads. She likes flying her 650 sized scratch built, so this time I was thinking either make a bigger complete quad like the KongCopter FQ700 (Which can also do X8) or a smaller FPV racing capable one. I like the idea of a canopy as its a more finished look.

That's one option... Hobbyking also sells them, but the price is higher. They're ALL OVER ebay right now and I mean ALL OVER it. (From to 8 for the frame.)
Looks really cool and I'd like to know if any of you have experience with it. (Initially it'd be to fly around... not FPV, but not far from taking that step.)
Thanks!

There seem to be a few variations on that frame. Mostly with the arms and how they mount.
They look pretty good and the way it's designed like a normal zmr/qav 250 body with a case over the top leaves lot of room inside.
Not sure about the thickness of the plates... especially the arms. Also the way the arms are attached with a small overlap and the metal joint. I'd want to have a closer look/feel at/of that.
My other problem would be with the battery. My 250s all have the battery on top. I guess you could try to build a very light one and use 18xx motors and try to get by with a smaller battery. I'm generally using 1800-2000mah 4s.
Maybe... since it has a cover over the top, most of the electronics could go on the top shelf and the battery in the middle.
But hey for the price and it does look good.

No problem putting in a battery that is too large for it to carry. The battery compartment is huge. The camera angle is not changeable unless you shim it. You can put a mobius camera on it if you take the shell off. The newest is all CF. Warning there are no instructions, but there is a half hearted on that really helps.

Sorry for the poor pic! and you posted the tarot one. It only has a two layer frame. Very weak. The one I posted has a triple frame and then the top frame. Heli Freaks won't let you repost a pic. Thought that would of changed after RCGroups got them.

Flew the Robocat yesterday, tried out my friend's 4S....well did not end up well. Was trying low fast pass then decided to go bit further....the haze was quite thick, till i lost it...I just saw it on top of the building bout 150 mtr from myself, then it baked on top of the highway (is when I literally thought the worse) ending up somewhere over a construction site.
We run over roughly where it crashed.....I thought I lost it definitely, as the trees there are thick and dense....after bat 30', my friend come over with what was left of it....I could not believe!! even tho was destroyed, I was so happy to see it again!
It crashed on a concrete, resulting in a carnage of the top frame. The arms and lower frame completely intact. Apparently it landed inverted, considering the radio rx and FPV antenna went into pieces. Other electronics all good.
Call it a day!

Anyone know if there is a difference between the HK and LHI version of the robocat frame? I found the LHI version on amazon for half the price of the HK version, so I'm assuming that there is a difference but can't find it in any of the literature.
LHI frame:

There are many different ones out there and they are all better than the others in some ways. I have the "official" cat and one from ebay. The one from ebays CF fits all nice and tight. Also looks to be better quality of CF. The official is all loose and moves around yet the aluminum is much better than the ebay as well as the body.
The green is the official and the left is ebay.

Weird, some stuff is built better by some than others I guess. I'll give it a try and give a review of it. Have you tried that pdb that eBay sells that replaces the lower frame and has the led's? I was thinking about it but worried it won't be as strong. Also wondering in all the pics I see of it in the quad the lights are reversed, red looking forward and white in the back. Is it reversible? Just seems odd to have the red lights in front.

I have one of those pdb boards coming for my second one. It has a three level frame so there should be no issue with strength. As for real world with the lights. When flying I have found that the red sticks out and the white you can not see. I found that you want to know were the front of the craft is more than the back.
I know, I know! we are use to white front, red rear. but in actual flying it's backwards. That is why most asian or oriental put the red first. I didn't think about it until I put red blades on the front of my leap.

looking good, I'll be interested to hear how it flies. I thought about getting that kit but wasn't sure about the components.

DefaultI have the robocat as my first fpv racer

The robocat is very strong and has survived the punishment of learning to fly it. the only issue is i cant get much distance from the fpv set-up? It constantly goes out about 30-40 yards away.. It comes with no instructions but they can be found here on HF. If some one could maybe give me some tips on how to get some distance out of the FPV camera I would really appreciate it. Its the combo deal with all FPV components included..
Fly's very stable after figuring out the CC3D have only broken props and plastic stand offs so far..
